WAYS TO PREVENT & REDUCE STEREOTYPING:
- Consider that stereotyping doesn't substitute for cold hard facts about people
- Look at how many times people have said something untrue about you.
How did they come up with these assumptions?
How did it make you feel?
- Think of a time you stereotyped someone.
How true were your assumptions?
- Determine what causes you to stereotype certain groups of people
- Attempt to get rid of prejudices and biases you have that lead you to stereotype
- Promote first hand knowledge through personal experiences
- Put yourself in another's shoes; consider multiple perspectives
- Work towards meaningful goals with others
- Let people prove themselves to you.
